Ere Perez Waterproof Mascara Review
I've tried a few different non-toxic mascaras over the years, and I've finally found one that I don't want to replace with another brand. Mascara is one of those products that many women find tricky to replace with an organic or natural formula. Many natural mascaras are very wet, prone to smudging and don't offer much in the way of length or volume.
My lashes are naturally very long, and I tend to wear mostly cream or liquid products, so a smudge-proof formula is a must for me — otherwise I end up with mascara dotted along my brow bone, and underneath my eyes — no matter how much I set it with a powder.
The hot & humid Australian Summer also tests the limits of most mascaras, so I need something that isn't going to smudge/run everywhere at the first sign of moisture.
The Ere Perez Volumising Waterproof Mascara lives up to the name. The formula isn't overly wet (without being dry), and is quite thick compared to some mascaras.
I can apply several coats, without smudging, clumping, flaking or the dreaded panda eyes, and it never transfers to my brow bone or under eye area.
Mascara can also get too stiff, dry and begin to crumble when you apply several layers — the Ere Perez Mascara does not. Even when wearing several coats I don't get the irritation or heaviness of wearing a lot of eye make-up, which I find bothers me with some formulas.
I will note that this isn’t a “soft” finish mascara. I wouldn’t say it leaves the lashes stiff or crunchy, but it definitely has a firm finish once set. If I want my lashes to feel softer, I comb them through with a spoolie after allowing it to dry for a few seconds.
Application and Removal
The wand is a volumising-style brush (see here) that coats each lash well on the first swipe. The tube opening is firm enough that the right amount of product is dispensed onto the wand without a lot of effort.
If I want really defined, fluffy lashes, I curl my lashes with the Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler, then apply the Natural Almond Oil Mascara first. I let that dry, curl my lashes again, before applying 2 coats of the Waterproof Mascara (allowing to dry in between coats)
I posted a photo on instagram to give you a good idea of what the mascara looks like.
As this is a waterproof mascara, you will need an oil or Micellar Water or similar to remove all traces. My cleanser takes off most of it, but I remove the remaining mascara with the Skin Juice Multi Juice Micellar Water and a cotton pad.
